Mrs. Carmichael, a Member of the Firm, practices in areas including civil litigation (with a focus in real property disputes) and community associations law. Mrs. Carmichael has been with the firm since 1991.
Mrs. Carmichael is a leading authority on legal issues affecting condominiums and homeowners associations in North Carolina, and has litigated hundreds of cases in her career involving architectural and general covenant enforcement, collection of assessments (including foreclosure), corporate and development issues. Mrs. Carmichael has argued a number of these cases in the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court and has consulted on the drafting of important legislation affecting planned communities and condominiums in North Carolina.
In addition to her litigation practice, Mrs. Carmichael devotes a good deal of her practice to advising community associations on the interpretation and implementation of restrictive covenants and to the drafting and amendment of restrictive covenants and other legal documents governing community associations. Her clients include community associations, community managers and developers.
